This past year has been a time of wrestling. A page in my journal from last summer says, “My mornings are filled with dreams, my afternoons with questions and my nights with desperate prayers”. It hasn’t changed much since then, I guess. I can’t really say it’s been a bad year, just dynamic. The joys and sorrows have intensified proportionally, along with the lessons God has been teaching me–especially on faith. I’m learning that a step of faith means being willing to risk something: safety, pride, comfort, reputation. I’ve never actually seen this movie, but I saw a pastor once use this clip as an illustration of faith and I liked it:
I think a step of faith is even more difficult than following your friends off the cliff. It’s taking a step off the edge when no one is standing next to you and it looks like there’s nothing there to catch you.

I love that scene in the movie. Faith would be so much easier if we knew the outcome, wouldn’t it. But then, I guess that wouldn’t be faith at all. Great post!
Important message. Faith really is based upon what can not be seen. If we can see the outcome, it is not really faith. Another faith illustration is allowing yourself to fall backwards and trusting someone to catch you. I’ve seen it done to illustrate faith and I’m sure it is difficult the first time.
